Investigation over Anglesey fish farm discharge concerns

Investigation over Anglesey fish farm discharge concerns

A FISH farm on Anglesey is being investigated over concerns untreated water is being discharged into the sea.

Environment Agency Wales said it has made repeated requests for Blue Water Fish Farm, a subsidiary of Greek firm Selonda, to deal with the failures of its waste water treatment system.

They said its reed-bed filter system was failing to treat the water – posing a potential pollution threat to the environment and marine wildlife.

Officers are now carrying out water sample tests in the vicinity of the site near Penmon, in south east Anglesey, and have threatened formal action unless something is done to treat the discharge.

Nurse guilty over faked crash death

A "sex mad" nurse who strangled his wife and tried to make it look as though she died in a car crash has been convicted of murder.

Brent Mott, 32, claimed he was acting in self-defence when he throttled Kate, 35, with her own pyjama top during a row over their divorce settlement, Liverpool Crown Court heard.

Mott, who was planning a new life in Australia, then dressed his wife and put her in the family car and staged a crash in a farmer's field near their home in Southport, Merseyside.

15,000 jobs at risk in Justice cuts

15,000 jobs at risk in Justice cuts

About 15,000 jobs are at risk as the Ministry of Justice slashes £2 billion from its £9 billion budget, a union has warned.

Staff at the Ministry of Justice, one of the largest Government departments, were told substantial job cuts are inevitable and efficiencies alone will not be enough as it cuts its budget by £2 billion from October.

Mark Serwotka, general secretary of the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union, said: "This is the first indication of the true scale of the cuts being imposed upon departments by this coalition Government, and it paints a devastating picture."

Warning of prison closures and courts being brought to a standstill, he said it was clear the civil service "will simply not be able to cope".

The union said the jobs of about 15,000 of the 80,000 staff at the Ministry could be at risk.
